What To Pack For A Stylish Vacation

Heading out this summer? Whether it’s a weekend getaway, destination wedding or lengthy travel abroad, here are tips to ensure stress free packing and stylish vacation wear!

How to pack:

  1. Bring versatile pieces that can be mix and matched to create a few different looks and easily transition from day to night.  And plan it out! Lay out everything you want to bring, then pair up outfits. Pieces that can be worn several different ways are definitely travelling with you, other pieces should sit this trip out.
  2.  Choose one base neutral to build your vacation wardrobe around. Most commonly black, brown or navy. For example, if you choose to bring a pair of black pants, black shorts and a dress with black in it, then you know you can match the same pair of black shoes with each outfit. (As opposed to bringing black pants, brown shorts and a dress with neither of these colors in it then having to pack a different pair of shoes for each look)
  3. Over pack. Yep, you read that correctly! … but overpack wisely. Be sure to have 1 of each category of clothing applicable to your vacation. For example: shirt (tank, short sleeve, long sleeve), layering piece (jacket/sweater), bottoms (pants, shorts), dress, shoes (flats, heels). And “applicable to your vacation” typically means according to the weather or activities. Meaning if there isn’t a water in sight, you likely don’t need a swimsuit. But if you are headed to a tropical paradise, consider bathing suit, cover up, beach bag. hat, etc. If headed to Alaska maybe you don’t need shorts, but you could still use a tank top to layer under a blazer for dinner or to wear to sleep.

Essential pieces to pack:

  1. Scarf. Versatile and takes up like zero room in your suitcase, but can be worn as an accessory, shawl when you get cold, head piece or sarong.
  2. Lightweight Jacket. Layering piece for the plane ride, cooler nights, aboard a boat or for smores by the fire.
  3. Perfect Shoes. Think comfort by day for walking and tourist or relaxation activities, then dressy and sexy or statement for dinner. Heels or wedges are an instant way to transition a day look to night!
  4. Perfect Bag. One, or two, that fit everything you need but are comfy for lugging around all day. I live by the bag-in-a-bag trick- a crossbody, wristlet or smaller bag inside a tote. Carry the tote for bigger items and everything you need, then use the crossbody when you only need your essentials.
  5. Jewelry. Don’t forget the jewelry to style your looks. Also an easy way to take a day outfit into the night.
