How to Determine YOUR Signature Style

What even is a Signature Style?
It is an overall image that speaks your name as soon as you enter the room. It is a quick introduction to who you are, what you stand for and what you showed up to do, before you even speak. Many times it’s about attitude. Think of someone you know that whenever you see them you know they’re going to be dressed up or you have an idea what they’re going to wear. They always look put together, polished and confident.  That co-worker that just commands attention when she enters the room, or that friend that even shows up for a quick dinner dressed to the nines.
It’s is all about taking what you like and doing it in a way that is figure-flattering and representative of your image and lifestyle. My mom for example often wears animal print, and in the summer she lives in dresses because they are easy and look put together. Myself, my go-to is heels, jeans and a cute jacket or blazer… and always a pop of color. Signature Style doesn’t always have to be a complex head to toe formula. It could simply be a color or it could be the consistent use of prints. It could be oversized jewelry, it could be statement necklace and dress pairings.  It could be themed like vintage, it could simply be makeup or the fact that you wont leave house without earrings or mascara on.
And Signature Style can evolve and change. It doesn’t mean being stuck in the same “uniform” everyday, or that you can only shop in one store. And you may have a different  signature style for business/work as you do for casual/personal life.
.
And why is a Signature Style important?
To fill your wardrobe with only items within your specific theme. This helps curb impulse buys on things you never end up wearing when shopping, and also ensures speedy dressing each day because you know everything you have is ideal for you. A Signature Style also keeps you in line when you start slacking on putting together outfits.  And as a business owner/worker, it helps establish trust with your clients. People trust consistency. And if you no-fail show up in your Signature Style each time people feel that you are more reliable and serious about your business. A Signature Style also helps you remain on-brand. Colors/styles/silhouettes that match or are in theme with your company’s branding reaffirm your dedication each and every time they see you.

My top 5 tips for developing your own Signature Style
Because really, how do you even know where to begin? It sounds great to be able to nail a Signature Style and all, but chances are you aren’t going to walk into a store and find an entire section with your name above it to steer you in the right direction. You’ve got to do a little research up front before you start building a wardrobe, so that you know exactly what you are looking for.
1. Know how to dress your bodytype and recognize what you feel the best in. Fit is #1 in any process of dressing so you look as put together as possible and feel even more confident and beautiful.
2. Choose a starting point to build your looks around. It could be a color or color family (ex- maybe you love jewel tones). It could be a specific item- oversized jewelry, arms full of stackable bracelets, leather jacket, cowboy boots, etc.  Or to start broader start brainstorming adjectives that either define yourself or your aspired style, or both.  Then start to build a wardrobe of only items or complete looks that fit these adjectives.
3. Find some inspo. Pinterest is an amazing tool to create boards that fit your ideal style. Go Pin crazy, then look back and you will notice styles, colors and silhouettes that are repeated and you know those are clearly your favs.
Also think of outfits you’ve worn in the past and felt great in when you wore them. Take notice of the pieces, pairings, silhouettes, colors, accessories, etc. Or take a look around your home! It is very common that folks have trouble dressing themselves or specifying their fashion tastes, but they have a very strong stance with home decor. Many times, the two go hand in hand!
4. Buy multiples. If you like it, own it in a few colors or options. If something is a sure thing, why not stock up? So if you find shoes you can run around comfortably for hours in, or the perfect tee for layering with your signature jackets or statement necklaces, get a few of them.
5. Hire a stylist such as myself to help you stay focused! I can help you determine and dress your bodytype to ensure everything is figure flattering, show you how to express your Signature Style inspiration words or pictures into actual outfits and steer into the best stores for you to shop in, saving you time and money. Let’s talk more about it!
