How To Wear Maxi Dresses Pt 2
Last year I published a blog with tips on how to overcome maxi dress fears to become a maxi lover. Its that time of year again, and I am still hearing concerns from folks that these dresses just don’t work for them. Maybe these tips will help you try a maxi dress when you would have otherwise avoided them, or even to update last years maxis to wear again this year!
– knot tie the bottom of the dress if it is too long. This gives a really cool laid back summer vibe, and allows you to customize the length of your dress from above the knee all the way to the ankles.
– Use bra clips, like those from Hollywood, to tie back straps. If you are on the petite side like I am sometimes the shoulder straps on dresses are too long and cannot be adjusted. But you know those cute little bra strap converters? Those are great ways to pull together and shorten straps in the back and often times look like they came with the dress!
– Add a colored bandeau. If the top of the dress isn’t providing enough coverage or your bra is showing add a bandeau bra. They can be worn to blend in and almost look like an extension of the dress, or since color blocking is so huge this season, you can add a colored bandeau to totally change your look! I am wearing one of the Fashion Star dresses below; look how different it looks with the pop of color! And since the dress is classic white and navy I could have added red, yellow, turquoise, pink, or even orange to it!
– Choose a weighted, but not slinky, fabric to avoid clingy to unwanted areas. Polyester and viscose are good materials in A-line cuts, or a blend with no more than 4% spandex. (for example 96% rayon and 4% spandex)
