Tricia's Personal Look Book
Confession: it is a bit of a pet peeve of mine when individuals considered themselves stylists or wardrobe consultants simply because they themselves are into fashion and/or they blog or post pictures of themselves dressed up. Yes, it is definitely a feat to put together outfits for yourself, so kudos for that. However it is quite another role to be able to understand the psychology and science behind dressing and be able to put yourself in other peoples shoes to be able to construct a complete wardrobe for them taking their lifestyle, budget, body image, areas of comfort and uncomfort and body type all into consideration. Also quite another project to build cohesive looks for a photoshoot or fashion show that fit a theme; or help a producer, artist or designers vision come to life through fashion for a styled photoshoot, show, event or display. With that said I was also against posting or blogging about pictures of myself in my own looks. Many people have asked me to and suggested I should but I wanted to be taken seriously as a wardrobe consultant and was afraid to be viewed as just a girl who likes posting pics of herself in cool clothes making duck faces!
Then I met Instagram.
And became addicted!
I have known for years that I have the tendency to inspire people I am around simply by dressing like myself and the way I want to. But all friends, co-workers, family, etc inspire themselves don’t they? The more you hang around people the more your habits rub off on each other. But then when I started Trust in Tricia I realized I can also be influential on strangers as well. Several clients and people I have met have come back to me telling me something they bought or wore because they saw it on me. That makes me so happy!! And now with Instagram it is super easy to quickly post peeks of your outfit with hash tags making it easy for folks to follow trends.
My personal goal with posting my own outfit pics is to inspire others and also show that I not only talk the talk but I walk the walk (as far as rocking certain trends, colors, etc). I want to show people how you can mix pieces that are old and new, inexpensive and expensive, designer and “no name” to create unique and personalized outfits. I also aim to show how peices can be used in multiple different ways, ie dressed up/dressed down, in color blocking or as a pop of color, etc to create versatility in a wardrobe. This is what I do when I work with clients wardrobes and do Closet Analysis’s.
