Solving the Ugly Christmas Sweater Dilemma

When my grandmother asked me to pick her up an outfit to wear to this years Christmas party I was so excited to not get her the typical “Christmas sweater”…you know the one! I am sure you have someone in your family that busts out that special holiday sweater this time of year, or maybe its even you! Well let me help! There is a way to portray “holiday” and “festive” without being so literal. You don’t have to physically have trees, bells and sleighs embroidered on your sweater to say that you love this time of year; instead you can utilize lux materials such as velvet, velour and cashmere, colors such as black, silver, red, gold and royal blue or elements such as metallic threading, sequins, beading or fur to show it instead.

Below we see the infamous sweater! It is actually not too bad, a pretty tame version compare to others I have seen (on this very lady!) But whether worn with jeans or dress pants it doesn’t do too much compliment her figure or give any “wow” factor. And lets be real, she is likely going to walk in and be just another “Memere” wearing just another Christmas sweater like every other grandmother there. But she is NOT just any other “Memere” so her ensemble should reflect that!

Here are my choices for her Holiday Looks. The shiny fabrics and silver color in the first look say “festive” in a classy way, and the black on black embroidered sweater in the second look portray “holiday” in a slimming way. And a major plus- I purchased the leggings, shell and cardigan for her holiday look this year, knowing she already had the necklace and shoes to go with it. But then when going through her closet I pulled out the black sweater and loved it! She proclaimed she never wore it because she didn’t have anything to pair it with and had no idea it was appropriate for the holidays. Enter the magic leggings and existing shoes and necklace make to another complete outfit!

Stay tuned for more “new” looks made with these leggings. Amazing how adding only one item to your wardrobe can create several new outfit combinations. Ah the power of the Trust in Tricia Closet Analysis!
