How To Tuck Your Pants Into Your Boots

I have been asked how to tuck pants smoothly into knee high boots by quite a few people since the season started.

Scenario: you see everyone rocking their rugged fall and winter boots and love the look so you buy a pair…but then they sit in your closet collecting dust because for some reason they just dont look quite right on you. Tricia comes by to do a closet analysis (*shameless plug!*) and determines that you havent been able to wear these great new boots yet because you dont have the right pants.

Sound familiar?? Or are you wondering what the heck your pants have to do with your boots?! Read on, because pant and boot relationships seem simple enough but there really is a little bit of a science behind it…

Step 1: Start with straight or skinny leg jeans. Flares and bootcut jeans do not fit smoothly into calf or knee high boots! You have to start with the right silhouette to pull off this look correctly.
Step 2: To eliminate bunching, the bottom of the jeans should fall just at your ankle (right above the “ankle ball”). If your jeans are long, cuff them to that height.
Step 3: Pull hems tight to your ankle, wrapping and folding the outside of the leg inward, towards and over the front of the jeans
Step 4: Pull your socks up completely over the fold, locking it in place
Step 5: Slip on your boots!

If you find that your fold is too bunchy or doesnt stay, you may need longer and/or tighter socks. OR you could pick up a pair of Hollywood Boot Straps to hold your jeans in place. I tried them and they do work!
