How Do You Personalize Your Wardrobe?
It’s taken me a while to really find myself, and then even longer to show my personality through my clothes. I never thought it was possible: tell me how I can make my jeans express all the feelings I’ve had through my teenage years? Now I’m twenty, so I don’t have to deal with those angsty, teenage moods which is great for my wardrobe! But in all seriousness it took me a while to catch on.
I’d like to describe myself as a carefree romantic, and so that is the first stage in how I developed my style. Who are you really or who do you really WANT TO BE?? Nowadays it seems like everyone has to be an individual – everything has to be all you. But that’s not true because I have many, and I mean many, role models. I’ve taken bits and pieces from everything I’ve learned and loved to create my own.
So that leads me to Stage two… Where I Shop! Now this part may take a while. You know that game where someone says a category and you have to say the first word that comes to mind? Well if someone said shopping to me, I’d say Anthropologie. I think you should play that and see what store comes to your mind first because for me Anthropologie is everything; the lifestyle it portrays, their home decor, the clothing, even the damn store itself. So maybe that store you’re thinking of should be your go to store for your personal style.
Finally, it is here, Stage three.. put some outfits together. Play around with what you have because you may have gotten a shirt and intended on wearing it only to work, but hey you found a great pair of pants you forgot about in the bottom of your drawers and that shirt looks great with those pants, so now you can wear that outfit out to eat with your friends, family, or your man! That is how you find versatility in your clothes and how you personalize them. On my days off I literally stand in my closet (yes, I am lucky to have a walk in closet so I take full advantage of that) and do my make up for probably a solid half hour just playing around with different ways to do it for work, the weekend, and errands. Then I try on my clothes with accessories and shoes. I make up outfits and some of them I will definitely never wear outside, but others look really great and I use my earrings, bracelets, tights, belts, I use all of my accessories to help make the outfit look even more like me!
This is so much easier looking back on it. The last thing I have to say about personalizing your outfit to you is own that look! Be confident in it, there are plenty of outfits that I have worn that I wasn’t confident in, and when I look back on it I don’t know why I wasn’t. Confidence is the key in looking good, defending yourself and your outfit, but make sure you always keep an open mind about enhancing your outfits!
