Happy Birthday to Meeeeee!
With the close of October I finally took a minute to slow down and celebrate Trust in Tricia’s 3 year anniversary. It’s been a whirlwind, and I cant believe 3 years has passed already! I had decided I wanted to go into business for myself early 2008, and after months of research and preparation I officially launched just in time for the holidays and the season change, and to date October remains my busiest month. I celebrated all month long- first a visit to Europe to research European fashion and inspiration, then days after returning to the states held a charity shopping event with Lit Boutique and Strong Women Strong Girls. Took 3 days to breathe, then it was time for highly anticipated fall Style Swap, clothing swap. I finished the month off strong by styling Reggie B Productions Rock the Runway IV Masquerade Ball and Fashion Show.
Then it was time to sit back and take it all in with my friends and family, who have been my biggest supporters and helped me out with all of October’s events. I wanted to do something extremely low key and laid back, the exact opposite that the previous few months had been! Of course every single person who has been there since day one couldn’t make it, but 10 of us headed out for dinner and drinks and a major toast. I am so very fortunate to have this group of talented, supportive individuals around me as my creative team! Present were my legal counselor, graphic designer, hair and makeup stylist, model, PR and social media reps, marketing and event planning team and the assistant of the year- all who do a whole lot of pro-bono, but hey that’s what family and friends are for right?! I have an enormously supportive family and circle of friends, and I would have never made it to year 3 without them.
As a small token of my appreciation, and of course a fan of doing everything in style, I came up with the idea of customizing wine glasses so we could toast appropriately. I googled and googled and finally, thankfully, was referred to a very talented woman named Becca of Dance Around the Sun. In one week, she was able to hand paint my logo on all of the wine glasses. Her work blew me away! …and yes, my company does endorse drinking wine! It did cross my mind that this may send out the wrong signal, but lets be realistic here. My clients are superwomen who not only take charge of their lives, families, education and career, but they do it stylishly as well! And there are just those days when a glass of wine is necessary!
It turns out my anniversary attendees had gotten me a little something too- a scrapbook of all of my accomplishments in the last 3 years! I almost cried! The first page showed my stylish younger years- around age 4 putting barrettes in my uncles hair and posing decked out in my Michael Jackson clothes (complete with sparkly glove!), then the ever hilarious 90’s glamour shots I got done! Turn the pages and there were my first ever flyer , my first business card, first logo, pictures from my first ever photoshoot. To see laid out and documented exactly how much I have put into my business and how much I have gotten in return and grown as an individual was overwhelming. It reminded me to remind everyone else, no matter how cliche it is, to follow your dreams. Put your mind to something and just do it! My business mentor told me “find something you love to do, then find someone to pay you to do it”. And that is exactly what I plan on continuing to do.
