10 Tips To Help You Find The Perfect Pair Of Jeans

Denim has become a staple in almost everyone’s modern wardrobe. In fact, studies show that jeans make up about 15% of women’s wardrobes.

And I can see why! We all know how great it feels when we find the perfect pair of jeans. I, myself, have a few that I could literally live in! But are you sure that your favorite comfy jeans are flattering your figure? Because rest assured, a great pair of denim can be both flattering and cozy- it just may take alot of trying on before you find them.

Here are 10 tips to help you find the perfect pair of jeans: (see video below for specific examples)

1. Don’t get discouraged while shopping! It will take alot of trying on before you find the perfect pair, but it will be worth it in the end!

2. Pay attention to the fits that you are trying by reading the informative hang tags or stickers on the jeans, for example- low rise, skinny, stretch, etc. This will help you weed out certain styles- for example avoid low rise if you are having an issue with ‘muffin top’, instead choose a mid rise pant that will conceal love handles instead of accentuating them.
*Tricia’s Tip– save the information tags from your jeans so that you can remember which labels and fits work best on you for future purchases!

3. Determine best fit by addressing waist and rise first. Do not be thrown off by a long length, as a simple hem can tailor the jeans to your height.

4. Choose fits that compliment your body type:
– A slimmer figure does well with low rise skinny, straight or boot cut.
– A curvier figure benefits from mid to high rises. Slightly flared or boot cut styles balance out curves, and straight leg styles emphasis them.
– Petite frames benefit from the leg lengthening effects given by straight leg or bootcut styles.

5. Look for denim with a bit of stretch for comfort. The ideal amount of spandex is 4-6% (this information can be found on the inside label of the garment)

6. Pay attention to the pockets! What is the first thing we do when we try on a pair of pants? Turn around and check out the rear view! This is where placement and size of pockets make all the difference. Pockets that are too small or too far apart will make your backside appear larger, while bigger, closer pockets minimize. Pockets situated lower on the jeans give your backside a little visual lift. And if you are looking to add a little volume to your tush, choose pockets with flap closures or designed packets.

7. Also be cognizant of extra details and effects. Cargo or side pocket placement, for example, can add width to your frame. Higher side pockets will add volume to hips, and may be great for boyish figures to add curves, while pockets placed closer to the knee will help balance out curvier frames. Same rule applies to fading, sandblasting, etc. If jeans are faded down 2 or more shades lighter around the side pockets, on the hips and thighs or buttocks, those areas may appear wider and draw more attention.

8. I believe that every woman should have a trouser jean. It is becoming more and more common to see denim at the workplace and in the office. A trouser denim assures that casual Fridays are casual in comfort, but not in professionalism.

9. The most flattering and versatile pair of jeans are a dark wash bootcut. This fit works best on every body type, and the dark wash gives a more dressed up, put together effect. This style pant can be dressed up with a blouse or cardigan, edged out with a blazer and statement necklace, or cozy with boots and a sweater.

10. Strut your stuff with confidence!!! If you try on a pair of jeans that make you feel great, then you two belong together!
